For the host, planning a party means putting in a lot of work and effort. To make party planning less work and less stressful, make up a party planning checklist of what need to be done and the deadline to have it completed.

First thing on your checklist should be to make a budget for your party. If you develop a budget, you will know how many people you can invite. This is important to know before moving to the next section on your checklist. The next group of items on your party planning checklist is about your guests.

Next on your checklist is about the guest list and the invitations. Decide who you would like to invite, and then purchase, write out and mail the invitations to your guests. Give yourself a final date of when to send the invitations. You should send your invitations a minimum of three weeks before the date of the party. Guests should then be given two weeks to RSVP if they will be attending or not. Make a new list of all the people you invited. Make a note when you receive their RSVP if they are planning to attend the party.

Next on your checklist should be in reference to the place where the party is to be held. If you are undecided about where the party will be and your budget allows you to have the party outside of your home, it’s time to do some research. You’ll want to add a note to your checklist to call different venues and get price quotes.

If you are thinking of having the party at a reception hall or similar rented venue, find out if they supply the food or if they require the food to be purchase from one of their preferred suppliers. Ask about the cost and menu options. After you have this information, you can decide if you want to have the party at catered at home or if you want to have the party at an outside venue. You will need to add to your checklist to get quotes from caterers.

Another option, especially if you enjoy cooking, is to prepare the food yourself. If you are considering this, add to your checklist to research recipes, supplies and food cost. Once you choose which option you would like, you will need to either secure the venue or caterer. Make a note on your checklist to verify the party details closer to the actual day of the party.

Other things on your checklist may include purchasing party supplies like plates, napkins, utensils, cups, drinks and food. Another item for the checklist is to phone rental companies for pricing on tables, chairs or party supply items. You can even rent linens, glasses and plates! Make sure to reserve your rental items early to avoid a last minute rush, especially during major holidays when there are lots of parties.

Depending on the type of party, the number of guests and the party location, your checklist may be a bit different. But it is clear that creating a party planning checklist is a wonderful way to stay organized, get everything done in the proper amount of time and the ability to give the best party you can.
